Historically correct colourisation
At Photo Fantastic Restorations, I specialise in historical colourisations and photo restorations. This intricate process requires extensive research to accurately identify the correct colours of historical transport, aircraft, military uniforms, medals, and period-specific clothing.
To ensure authenticity, each photograph is carefully researched. For example, I often source colour references from museum archives and verified historical materials.
In addition, I use advanced tools such as a Lab Portable Colourimeter High Precise Photo Digital Spectrophotometer to gather precise colour data from physical artefacts. As a result, every image is recreated with the highest degree of historical accuracy and authenticity.
The process can be time-consuming, as it demands thorough research and a high level of attention to detail. Because each project is unique, pricing is determined by the subject matter and the number of items or objects requiring accurate identification.
Importantly, all research is fully documented and included as part of the Historical Colourisation and restoration service. Prices start from £350, with additional charges for travel and accommodation, if required.
Please note that this is a lower-resolution print copy, provided for reference purposes only. Additionally, the colours and tonal values you see may vary depending on your monitor or phone display settings, as well as the viewing angle. As such, the appearance of the historically accurate image on-screen may differ slightly from the final print.
However, the printed version will be carefully colour-corrected to match swatch colours derived from verified research sources.
Kindly refrain from printing or reproducing this image. It is strictly for reference use and remains protected by copyright restrictions.
Sailor Malan Spitfire Photograph Research
HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPHIC COLOURISATION & RESTORATION
This colourised photograph of Sailor Malan has been carefully recreated through extensive historical research, ensuring the most accurate representation of original colours. To achieve this, I consulted period reference photographs, studied relevant materials, and spoke directly with experts in military history and historical photography.
By combining these valuable sources, I meticulously applied authentic colours to key elements—honouring the historical accuracy and preserving the integrity of this iconic image. This includes the RAF uniform, skin tones, Spitfire camouflage, cockpit seating, crowbar, headgear, life vest, fixings, and internal cockpit details.
Throughout the process, I gained a deeper appreciation for the history behind the image—and learned a great deal along the way.
